Cape Peninsula University of Technology Bursaries – NSFAS applications for is now open.
Applications must be made directly to NSFAS.

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme, or NSFAS, is a government organisation that assists academically competent and financially needy students to pay their study-related costs.
Applications for NSFAS
Students entering university for the first time in , including matriculates, must apply from 1 August – 30 November .
University student who were not funded (declined/ did not apply) by NSFAS in , can apply for funding from 1 September – 30 November .

Please complete and submit your application online within the deadlines provided by NSFAS as the university will not be in a position to assist students who submit incomplete or late applications, or who didn’t apply to NSFAS.
NB: Applications for NSFAS will no longer be accepted by the CPUT Financial Aid Office.
Criteria – Cape Peninsula University of Technology Bursaries
A student qualifies for a NSFAS loan if he/ she is:
- a South African citizen
- applied to study at a university
- an undergraduate student studying towards a first higher education qualification
- is financially needy as determined by the NSFAS Means Test
- able to demonstrate potential for academic success
- unable to finance his/ her studies
Students who have received loans or bursaries from other sources covering the full cost of study are not eligible for a loan.

External bursaries and scholarships -Cape Peninsula University of Technology Bursaries
External bursaries and scholarships are offered by off-campus organisations such as companies, NGOs, government departments, and SETAs. Students must apply to these organisations directly.
The Financial Aid Office has compiled a list of donors who provide financial aid to applicants who meet certain criteria.

- Religious organisations
- Clubs, societies
- Your local municipality
- The institute or council of a specific career field
- Your local newspaper, magazines, the local library
- Career websites
How to apply for a bursary – Cape Peninsula University of Technology Bursaries
- Write a short letter to ask for application forms for all the bursaries that you think you are eligible for.
- Apply early, well before the closing date – applications are not accepted after the closing date.
- Apply only for those bursaries you are eligible for.
- Apply for as many bursaries as possible.
- Only accept one bursary unless the organisation says you may apply for others.
- Be prepared for disappointment – you may not be successful the first time or the second time.
- Try to make another plan in case you do not get a bursary.
- A neat, accurate and honest application makes a good impression.
When you fill in your application form
- Answer all the questions.
- Complete the form neatly in print.
- Use black or blue ink only.
- Keep the form clean and in good condition.
- Carefully check the form for mistakes.
- Be completely accurate.
- Be completely honest.
- Include a certified copy of your most recent examination results signed by a Commissioner of Oaths, usually found at the local Post Office or Police Station.

How to apply – Cape Peninsula University of Technology Bursaries
Bursaries
Students who wish to apply for external bursaries, scholarships or loans must apply directly with the companies or organisations offering the funding.
Students who wish to apply for University administered awards, CPUT Scholarship, Merit bursaries, Deans merit bursary from CPUT, must apply at the Financial Aid Office.
Application forms for university administered funding are available from the Financial Aid Offices on the Bellville, Cape Town, Mowbray and Wellington campuses.
Complete and return the application form by the closing dates, along with the necessary supporting documentation.
Important notes
Always adhere to closing dates. Late applications or late submission of documentation will result in forfeiture of financial assistance.
Consult the notice boards in the vicinity of the Financial Aid Office regularly for important and relevant information regarding financial assistance.
Accessing allocated funds
University administered awards, Merit bursaries from CPUT, external bursary and scholarship funds are administered by the Financial Aid Office.
To access allocated funds students can visit or contact the Financial Aid Office.
Loans offered by financial institutions are usually paid directly to the student.
