About SARS Bursaries

Do you love working with numbers, do you find mathematics, accounting, and the law intriguing? SARS, the South African Revenue Services has a SARS Bursaries program that may be suitable for you.  This program aims at providing deserving candidates, from previously disadvantaged backgrounds financial aid to study further.  They seek talented individuals who show great potential, who enjoy working within a team and strive for success.

The SARS bursary program is made available yearly, within fields of study that SARS deems as being scarce and critical skill.  Candidates will be selected from all applications received via a pre-set criteria.  SARS Bursaries will be aligned to the companies mandate and objectives.  It will provide candidates with a financial need within specific fields of study, the opportunity to reach their full potential.

South African has a severe shortage of skilled professionals in a wide range of fields.  This program aims to aid in filling those positions, stabilizing the workforce, as well as the countries economics.  SARS provides a variety of opportunities for candidates, the SARS bursary program is only one way in which they help unique individuals to grow.

Funding will vary, depending on the field of study.  Successful candidates may also be required to sign an employee agreement in terms of service, in accordance with the bursary term.  SARS bursaries program is also aligned to the Governments employment equity act.

SARS Bursaries Requirements

If you are a Grade 12 pupil or currently studying, and would like to apply for a bursary in the fields mentioned above, you will also have to adhere to the requirements as is stipulated by SARS.

To study in these fields, candidates will be obliged to have the following:

  • Grade 12 Matric results or middle of the year results if still in Grade 12
  • If studying, you will need your June Results of the current year
  • Must be proficient in English
  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Possess a South African ID
  • Must hold an average pass mark of 70% or higher
  • Proof of registration at an Institute of Higher Learning
  • Parents or guardians ID
  • Parents or guardians proof of income
  • Must be from a previously disadvantaged background

Candidates must be younger than 30 to be eligible, and must also provide an essay of at least 250 words, along with their application as motivation on why they deserve the bursary.  All documents must be certified copies, please keep the originals.  It is suggested that candidates additionally attach a curriculum vitae to their application, indicating any work experience, extramural activities, hobbies, and interests.

SARS Bursaries Application

Bursaries online applications is not currently available, candidates can, however, find out from the Universities closest to them, or of their liking, about any advertisement of SARS bursaries during the year.  SARS will inform these institutes of bursaries as they have available.

Candidates can also enquire about their Bursary program, their Pipeline Development program and Graduate program by sending a letter to [email protected].  Candidates must ensure that the application form is completed entirely and signed.  All documentation must be certified and accompany their application.  Any applications not completed, not signed or documentation missing will be disqualified.

Once applications close, the department will make a short-list of candidates who fulfill all their requirement.  These may be invited for an interview before being awarded the bursary.  Candidates who do not hear from them can deem their applications as unsuccessful.

Candidates who receive bursaries will also need to submit academic results yearly. This will be of all examinations, before the 31 of December.  This does not, however, guarantee that they will receive funding the following year, but is compulsory.
