SAPREF Bursary South Africa 2024

SAPREF was formed as a joint venture between 2 companies, namely Shell SA Refining and BP Southern Africa. They are the biggest crude oil refinery across Southern Africa, processing around 24 000 tons of crude each day, with a refining capacity of approximately 8.5 million tons per annum.

They are situated in Durban and manufacture various petroleum products, including diesel; petrol; liquid petroleum gas; aviation fuel; marine fuel oil; solvents; base oil, and paraffin. The refinery has been operating for over 50 years since the SAPREF refinery building works commenced in 1960.

The company is a Level 2 BBBEE contributor and employs around 700 permanent staff members. Their major stakeholders are made up of the surrounding communities; shareholders; customers; contractors; suppliers; trade unions; non-governmental organizations; direct workforce; indirect workforce and authorities.

  • Chemical Engineering (BSc)
  • Electrical Engineering (BSc)
  • Mechanical Engineering (BSc)

The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: full tuition fees, accommodation in campus residence, a book allowance, laptop and a monthly stipend.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SAPREF BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying for the bursary (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must have completed Matric at a school in Durban South
  • You must be studying or intend on studying towards one of the above Engineering degree qualifications
  • You must be studying or have been accepted to studying at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
  • You must have a strong academic record
  • You must be in financial need

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE SAPREF BURSARY

Students who meet the above minimum eligibility requirements, can apply by submitting clear copies of the following documentation (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate (certified copy)
  • Full academic record, if currently at tertiary level (certified copy)
  • Proof of University registration/ acceptance (on tertiary letterhead)

Note: there is no application form to be completed for this bursary application – students need only submit the list of above documents to apply.
Applications must be dropped off at the SAPREF Security Check Point: 1 Refinery Road, Prospecton, KwaZulu-Natal, 4110.
Ensure that your application is in a sealed envelope and has the words “SAPREF Bursary Application 2024” written on it.
