About the SA Military Bursary Program
The SA Military is a proud members of BBBEE and aim at improving the lives of all members and their families. They have delivered exceptional services for more than fifty-five years and aim in continuing to do so. For their SA Military Bursaries (Veterans Bursaries) they seek talented individuals who show great integrity, innovation, loyalty and commitment for their bursary program.
The SA Military / Army Foundation was brought to light in 1956. They are known as the chosen contractor to deliver services, authorised products, and benefits to all departments of the national defense force of South Africa. These are all the services which are not provided by the state. This company is a non-profit organization. It delivers a variety of services and product including life insurance, luxury lifestyle products, and products or services that improve education and housing.
Most of their services are in benefit of members of the Department of Defense and the South African National Defense Force. They focus mainly on members from the SA Air Force, SA Army, SA Military Health Services and the SA Navy.
SA Military Bursaries Available for
The SA Military offers successful candidates a wide field of study options. Candidates who are interested in any of the fields mentioned below and who meet all set regulations may apply. Most of their bursaries will go towards completion of a national diploma or bachelor’s degree. These fields range from academic to technical.

SA Military Bursary Requirements
Candidates interested in applying for a bursary provided by the SA Military must adhere to all stipulations as set out by the department. It is preferred for candidates between the ages of 18 and 22 to apply.
Basic requirements candidates should have are:
- Candidates must be South African citizens
- Candidates must have completed their Grade 12 / Matric year
- Candidates must have a valid ID document
- Candidates must be willing to relocate or travel if required
- Candidates must be single
- Candidates must be in need of financial assistance
- Candidates may not hold any kind of criminal record
- Proof of acceptance at University of Institute of Higher Learning
Additional criteria for applicants will depend on the bursary available:
- One parent must be a member of the foundation and employed by SANDF
- Total income of household must not be more than R15000
- Candidates must be completing their Grade 12 / Matric year of school or have just completed this year of schooling, or be in their first year of study
- Candidates must be medically fit

Candidates must ensure they have the following documentation and that certified copies of each is attached to their application.
- The completed application
- Academic Records
- ID copy
- Proof of household income
- Motivational letter
- Complete and up-to-date Curriculum Vitae
- Recommendation letter (lecturer, teacher or principal)
- Proof of acceptance at Institute of Higher Learning
- Estimation of costs of study
Candidates who make the shortlist may be required to partake in a medical evaluation and psychometric testing. Applicants who do not meet all the requirements should not apply. All late applications, incomplete applications, as well as those applications that are missing documentation will not be taken into consideration for this bursary program.
SA Military Bursaries: Closing Date
Closing dates for applications with the SA Military / SA Army Foundation for bursaries are usually the end of September yearly. This applies to all of the nine provinces throughout South Africa. Candidates who have not had any correspondence by the end of October can presume their application was unsuccessful.
