Rand Water, a South African water utility company which supplies Gauteng (and various other areas of South Africa) with potable water, was founded in 1903. The company, previously known as the Rand Water Board, is Africa’s biggest water utility.
Rand Water provides purified water which has been extracted from various sources, to metropolitan municipalities; local municipalities; industries and mines. The company is also involved in waste water sanitation.
The distribution network includes over 3000 km of pipeline, which supplies 58 service reservoirs. The average supply of water is over 3500 million litres of water per day.
ABOUT THE RAND WATER BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & SELECTION
Rand Water are inviting students who wish to join the Water Sector, to apply for the bursary programme for the 2021 academic year. Bursaries will be awarded for undergraduate studies in the following fields:
- Accounting Finance (Diploma) (1 bursary will be awarded)
- Civil Engineering (BTech or BCc) (1 bursary will be awarded)
- Cybersecurity, Computer Science (Masters or Honours) (3 bursaries will be awarded)
- Electrical Engineering (BSc or BEng) (2 bursaries will be awarded)
- Financial Accounting (BCom) (1 bursary will be awarded)
- Hospitality: Food and Beverage Management (2 bursaries will be awarded)
- Internal Audit (Finance and Auditing) (BTech or BCom) (1 bursary will be awarded)
- IT, Informatics or Information System (BCom) (1 bursary will be awarded)
- IT Infrastructure, Cybersecurity & Operation (BTech or BSc IT) (2 bursaries will be awarded)
- Management Accounting (BCom or CIMA) (1 bursary will be awarded)
- Property Valuation (1 bursary will be awarded)
- Records Management, Information Science (1 bursary will be awarded)
- Supply Chain Management (Diploma or Advanced Diploma) (2 bursaries will be awarded)
- Survey (Diploma) (1 bursary will be awarded)
- Risk Management (Enterprise Wide Risk Management) (Diploma or Degree) (1 bursary will be awarded)
- Risk Management (Business Continuity) (Diploma or Degree) (1 bursary will be awarded)
- Water Care (BTech) (3 bursaries will be awarded)

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE RAND WATER BURSARY
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must be under 35 years old
- You must have completed Matric or equivalent
- You must be studying full-time within one of the fields of study listed above
- You must be registered and studying at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa
- You must have achieved a minimum result of 65% for all major subjects
- You must be interested in working within the water sector
- You must be from a previously disadvantaged background
- You must NOT be in possession of any other bursary awards or funding
- Accounting Finance (Diploma) students: you must be entering your 2nd year of study in 2021
- Civil Engineering (BTech or BSc): you must be entering your 3rd or 4th year of study in 2021
- Cybersecurity, Computer Science: you must be entering your Masters or Honours studies in 2021
- Electrical Engineering (BSc or BEng): you must be entering your 3rd or 4th year of study in 2021
- Financial Accounting (BCom): you must be entering your 2nd year of study in 2021
- Hospitality: Food and Beverage Management: you must be entering your 3rd year of study in 2021
- Internal Audit (Finance and Auditing) (BTech or BCom): you must be entering your 1st or 2nd year of study in 2021
- IT, Informatics or Information System (BCom): you must be entering your 2nd or 3rd year of study in 2021

- Management Accounting (BCom or CIMA): you must be entering your 2nd or 3rd year of study in 2021
- Property Valuation: you must be entering your 3rd year of study in 2021
- Records Management, Information Science: you must be entering your 2nd or 3rd year of study in 2021

- Water Care (BTech): you must be entering your 4th year of study in 2021
- You must be self-motivated
- You must be results-driven
- You must have good written and verbal communication skills
- You must intend on completing your qualification within the specified amount of time, per the bursary agreement
- Preference will be given to female students, as well as students with disabilities (in line with Rand Water’s Employment Equity objectives)
