LGSETA Bursary South Africa 2024

The Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LGSETA) are responsible for creating and implementing skills development interventions to assist local government employees, those working within the local government structures and the unemployed.

The LGSETA falls under the executive authority structure of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and is one of 21 SETA’s in South Africa.

ABOUT THE LGSETA BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE

The LGSETA is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme (Discretionary Grants 2nd funding window), for the 2024 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded for studies within these fields:

  • Civil Engineering specialising in: Urban Engineering; Environmental Engineering, Water, Transport,
  • Construction Engineering (National Diploma)
  • Data Science (Bachelors)
  • Electrical Engineering (Bachelor of Engineering Technology)
  • Environmental Sciences (Bachelor of Science)
  • Environmental Sciences (Bachelor of Science Hons)
  • Internal Auditing (National Diploma)
  • Local Government Finance (Diploma)

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE LGSETA BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen or a permanent resident in South Africa
  • You must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years old
  • You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • You must be studying or intend on studying full-time, towards one of the above qualifications, in 2024
  • You must be studying or accepted to study at a recognised public institution within South Africa (University, University of Technology or TVET Institution)
  • You must be unemployed

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE LGSETA BURSARY

Candidates must download and read the LGSETA Bursary Guide 2024 before applying.
Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric term 1-3 reports, if certificate is not yet available (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate, if available (certified copy)
  • Most academic records, if currently studying (certified copy)
  • Last years academic tertiary results, if a continuing student (certified copy)
  • Proof of acceptance, if a new learner entering tertiary studies (on institutions letterhead)
  • Proof of registration, if already studying (on institutions letterhead)
  • Proof of Unemployment (compulsory)
  • Proof of family income (latest payslips) or Affidavit (if there is no income)

Note: documents must have been certified within the last 6 months. Further supporting documents (such as academic history and fee invoices) will be requested from students after their bursary has been approved.
