The Eric and Charmaine Mabuza Foundation was founded in 1999 by Adv. Eric Mabuza and Charmaine Mabuza, in order to help the youth from disadvantaged backgrounds and remote rural areas to achieve their academic dreams.
Tthe Eric and Charmaine Mabuza Foundation have partnered with Ithuba Holdings (RF) (PTY) LTD (known as “Ithuba”), to provide full bursary funding, for students to pursue their studies. Ithuba, founded by the Zamani Equity Fund, is a privately-owned South African company and the National Lottery Operator in the country.
ABOUT THE ITHUBA BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
ITHUBA is inviting students to apply for bursary funding, for the 2024 academic year.
Bursaries will be awarded for undergraduate studies, within the following areas:
Commerce:
- Accounting
- Management Accounting & Finance
- Marketing
Information Technology:
- Computer Science
- Computer Engineering
- Communication Networks
- Information Systems
- Software Development
MORE ABOUT THE ITHUBA BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & SELECTION PROCESS
The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, books, study materials, laptop and data allowance, accommodation, meal allowance and personal care allowance. Bursary recipients will also receive the following benefits:
- mentoring and coaching
- continuous academic performance monitoring and assessment, to ensure optimal performance
- early intervention and support programme
- preparation for workplace readiness
- extra female-orientated skills development programmes
- psychological and emotional support through ICAS

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ITHUBA BURSARY
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must have completed Matric
- You must be 25 years old or younger
- You must be studying or have been accepted to study, towards a qualification in one of the fields listed above
- You must be studying or have been accepted to study at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa
- You must achieved a minimum result of 70% for each subject, in your previous year of study
- You must achieved a minimum overall average of 70%, in your previous year of study
- You must be willing to specialise in a Commerce or IT field of study
- You must be dedicated to your studies and intend on maintaining a strong academic record throughout your studies
- You must be from a previously disadvantaged background, with a total household income of NOT MORE than R350 000 per year
- You must have a vision and mission that aligns with the Foundation, you must be diligent, enthusiastic, dedicated to succeed and give back to your community

- Proof of provisional admission for residency or private accommodation (on tertiary institutions letterhead)

- Parents or guardians proof of household income (latest payslip or employment letter if employed/ affidavit if an informal trader/ affidavit if unemployed/ SASSA letter if receiving a grant: certified copy)
- Motivational letter, explaining why you should be awarded the scholarship and how you plan to contribute to your community upliftment
