The Insurance Sector Education and Training Authority (INSETA) is an official education and training and authority in South Africa, whose goal is to increase the quantity and quality of critical and scarce skills within the insurance sector. INSETA provides a range of skill development and training programmes such as bursaries, learnerships and internships, to help bridge the gap of skilled workers within the Insurance sector.
ABOUT THE INSETA BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
The Insurance Sector Education and Training Authority (INSETA) is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2024 academic year.
Bursaries will be awarded for studies at public Universities, Universities of Technology and TVET Colleges, towards qualifications on the Qualifications linked to the Critical & Scarce Skills List.
Examples of funded programs include:
University and University of Technology studies:
- Actuarial Science
- Data Science / Data Analyst
- Economics, Finance, Insurance, Investments, Risk (B Com / B Admin)
- Financial Planning (Loss Adjustor)
- Information Technology
- Law Degrees (with Financial Planning; Insurance; or Pension Fund Specialisations)
- Marketing
- Postgraduate / Honors studies in any of the above fields
TVET College studies (N4, N5 or N6 certificate):
- Business Management
- Financial Management
- Information Technology
- Sales and Marketing
MORE ABOUT THE INSETA BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE
- The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses:
- University and University of Technology studies: tuition fees, prescribed textbooks and accommodation. University students will receive cover to the maximum value of R95 000 and University of Technology students will receive cover to the maximum value of R85 000.
TVET College studies: tuition fees and textbooks, to the maximum value of R36 000.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE INSETA BURSARY
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
University and University of Technology studies:
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must be under the age of 35 years old
- You must be unemployed
- You must be registered to study towards a qualification that is between NQF Level 5 and NQF Level 8
- You must be registered to study at a public University or University of Technology in South Africa
TVET College studies:
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must be under the age of 35 years old
- You must be unemployed
- You must be registered to study towards a N4, N5 or N6 qualification
- You must be registered to study at a public TVET College in South Africa

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):
- Identity Document (certified copy)
- Matric Certificate/ latest results (certified copy)
- Proof of registration at a public University, University of Technology or TVET College, for 2024 (on institutions letterhead)
