Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Bursary South Africa 2024

The Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD), previously called the Gauteng Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Environment (GDACE), is responsible for Gauteng’s nature conservation, environmental protection and agricultural affairs.

ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

GDARD will be awarding bursaries within the Veterinary Science, Agriculture and Environmental Sectors, which are scarce and critical occupational categories of study, including:

  • Veterinary Laboratory Technology (National Diploma)
  • Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc)
  • Zoology (BSc)
  • Botany (BSc)
  • Ecology (BSc)
  • Environmental Science (BSc)
  • Environmental Management (BSc)
  • Geo-Informatics or GIS related qualification (BSc)
  • Food Technology (National Diploma)
  • Food Science (BSc)
  • Chemical Engineering (National Diploma/ Degree)
  • Analytical Chemistry (National Diploma/ Degree)

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

    • South African citizen
    • Completed Matric OR currently in Matric
    • Reside in Gauteng (for at least 1 year before applying for this bursary)
    • Studying or intend on studying towards a full-time qualification in one of the aforementioned fields of study (undergraduate only)
    • Studying or accepted to study at an accredited South African tertiary institute in Gauteng
    • From a previously disadvantaged background
    • Female students, students from designated rural areas and students with disabilities are encouraged to apply
    • Preference will be given to students with excellent academic records and those who show great potential
    • Preference will be given to students who are NOT in receipt of any other bursary funding
    • Veterinary Laboratory Technology (National Diploma) students: achieved a minimum of level 4/ 50-59% for Mathematics, Chemistry and Physical Science in Matric
    • Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) students: achieved a minimum of level 5/ 60-69% for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric
    • Zoology, Botany or Ecology (BSc) students: achieved a minimum of level 5/ 60-69% for Mathematics, Chemistry and Physical Science in Matric
    • Environmental Science/ Environmental Management (BSc) students: achieved a minimum of level 5/ 60-69% for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric
    • Geo-Informatics or GIS related qualification (BSc) students: achieved a minimum of level 5/ 60-69% for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric
    • Food Technology (National Diploma) students: achieved a minimum of level 4/ 50-59% for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric
    • Food Science (BSc) students: achieved a minimum of level 5/ 60-69% for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric
    • Chemical Engineering (National Diploma/ Degree) students: achieved a minimum of level 5/ 60-69% for Mathematics, Chemistry and Physical Science in Matric
    • Analytical Chemistry (National Diploma/ Degree) students: achieved a minimum of level 4/ 50-59% for Mathematics, Chemistry and Physical Science in Matric

    • ID document (certified copy)
    • Matric latest results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
    • Matric certificate, if completed Matric (certified copy)
    • University acceptance letter/ provisional admission
    • Latest academic transcripts, if at tertiary level (certified copy)
    • Proof of residence in Gauteng
