The Energy and Water Sector Education and Training Authority (EWSETA), one of the 21 SETAs in South Africa, is a skills development authority who are responsible for serving the energy and water sectors.
EWSETA are responsible for the management of skills development within the National Skills Development Strategy III framework. The EWSETA’s main focus areas include water services; gas; energy and renewable energy.
ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE
Each year EWSETA offers bursaries for students pursuing their studies in Energy and Water sectors, including the following:
- Engineering Studies (GFETQSF) (Certificate: N1/ N2/ N3)
- Civil Engineering (Bachelor of Engineering)
- Electrical Engineering (Diploma/ Bachelor of Technology)
- Engineering Technology (Computer Systems) (Diploma)
- Quality (Bachelor of Technology/ Master of Technology)
- Hydrology and Water Resources Management (Bachelor of Science)
- Supply Chain Management (Diploma/ Advanced Diploma/ Bachelor degree/ Honours degree)
- Marketing (Diploma/ Postgraduate Diploma/ Bachelor of Commerce/ Bachelor of Commerce Honours)
- Information Systems Management (Advanced Certificate)
- Information Technology (Advanced Diploma/ Bachelor degree)
The bursary will fund qualifications in line with the EWETA’s Sector Skills Plan (SSP) (here: https://ewseta.org.za/sector-skills-plan/) found in Chapter 3. As well as studies on the EWSETA Sectoral Priority Occupations List (SPOL) (.pdf)
The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, textbooks, stationery, accommodation and meals.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- South African citizen
- Completed Matric or equivalent
- Currently studying OR accepted to study at a recognised South African tertiary institution (university or TVET College)
- Currently studying OR accepted to study within the Energy and Water sector
- *Preference will be given to students from previously disadvantaged communities (youth, black, female) and students with disabilities

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):
- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric certificate or equivalent, if a 1st year student (certified copy)
- Previous academic record/ results, if a 2nd or 3rd year student (certified copy)
- Proof of application/ provisional acceptance offer from university/ TVET College, if a 1st time applicant (if not yet available, must be submitted as soon as received)
- Proof of household annual income
