The Bombela Concession Company, located in Johannesburg, were appointed in 2006 by the Gauteng Provincial Government, to not only design, but also build to operate, maintain and finance a portion of the Gautrain rapid rail system.
The Gautrain project began in 2010 with Phase 1 – an airport link between the OR Tambo International Airport (and 2 intermediate commuter stations) and Sandton CBD. The remaining projects include 6 more stations that connect Johannesburg CBD to Hatfield and Pretoria.
Gautrain is one of the worlds most reliable passenger train services and has since transported more than 60 million passengers.
The companies mission is to provide their customers with a reliable, comfortable, safe and clean integrated transportation system – in cooperation with the Gautrain Management Agency and Bombela Operating Company.
ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED, COVERAGE VALUE & SERVICE CONTRACT
Bursaries will be awarded to second year students within the following fields:
- Civil Engineering
- Construction Engineering
The bursary will cover the following expenses: registration fees, tuition, examination fees, prescribed textbooks, residential accommodation, meals/ monthly allowance.
On completion of their studies, students will be required to serve Bombela for the equal duration of their bursary awarded. There is also mandatory vacation work for all bursary recipients during the June and December holidays.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- South African citizen
- Studying full time in one of the aforementioned fields – 2nd year students
- Excellent academic results
- Reside in Gauteng province
- *Preference will be given to students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds
