The Air Traffic and Navigation Services SOC Limited (ATNS) are South Africa’s experts in air traffic, navigation, as well as training and associated services. The companies services are also used across a large portion of the Atlantic and Southern Indian Ocean.
The companies vision is to be the go-to supplier of Air Traffic Management solutions within Africa and in certain international markets.
The ATNS Aviation Training Academy (ATA) provides its staff members with Air Traffic Services and Engineering Training, as well as providing aviation-related and safety-related courses across Africa and the Middle East.
ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE
The ATNS has 3 bursary programmes available: the Aeronautical Information Management Officer (AIMO); the Air Traffic Control Office (ATCO); and the Air Traffic Services Officer (ATSO).
The bursary consists of 3 major phases, including:
1) Core Content Course – 21 week theoretical foundation course
2) ATS Rating Course – a practical course to complement your theoretical training
3) ATS Validation – practical on the job training
Students will be able to develop many important skills for this specific field of study, including: communications; aeronautical surveying; NOTAM; data management; flight procedural design and charting; flight-planning and so so much more.
The bursary will cover the following expenses: ATS Core Content Course tuition fees, shared accommodation costs (to be arranged by ATNS), transportation, meals, and a monthly allowance.
Students will conduct their studies at the Bonaero Park-based, ATNS Aviation Training Academy. During their time of study, students are required to pass all courses in order for the bursary to continue.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- South African citizen
- Between 18 and 33 years old
- Completed Matric OR currently in Matric
- Achieved a minimum “C” symbol (standard grade) OR “D” symbol (higher grade) OR level 4 for Matric Mathematics and English
- Medically fit

BURSARY SELECTION PROCESS
Students who meet the entry criteria will be required to write SHL/CEB Assessments at a ATNS unit in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth or Bloemfontein.
Those who pass the assessment, will be invited to attend a panel interview.
Thereafter medical tests will be conducted to ensure medical fitness.
Finally, students will be vetted to verify their identity, qualifications and criminal record.
A bursary offer will then be offered to the successful candidates.
If you have not received a response from ATNS within 60 days of the application deadline, regard your application as unsuccessful.
