Varsity College is a brand of the IIE (Independent Institute of Education) – the largest registered and accredited private provider of higher education in South Africa.

Varsity College offers full-time, part-time, and short learning programmes in 6 schools, namely: School of Management, School of Finance and Accounting, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Information Technology, School of Education, and the School of Law.

ABOUT THE VARSITY COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

Varsity College is inviting top-performing students to apply for their Scholarship Programme, for the 2024 studies. The Scholarship will be awarded to 180 deserving students – at a total value of R25 million, it is the biggest Scholarship Programme of its kind in South Africa.

The Scholarship Programme, for the 2024 academic year, will consist of 2 categories:
1) The Excellence Scholarship
2) The Achiever Scholarship

The program is available to students who intend on studying towards an undergraduate qualification, at any of the 8 Varsity College campuses across the country, in one of these areas: Accounting, Education, Commerce, Humanities, Information Technology, and Law. MORE ABOUT THE VARSITY COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE

The aim of the Scholarship Programme is to provide top quality Private Higher education, to students who may otherwise not be able to afford it.

The value of the scholarship will be between R30 000 and R50 000 per annum. Both scholarships will cover full-time contact learning, for the minimum duration of the qualification (between 3 and 4 years). Renewal of the award will be based on the student receiving satisfactory academic results each year, and completing the qualification in the minimum time frame.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE VARSITY COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

Excellence Scholarship:

  • You must be currently in Matric OR have completed Matric (or equivalent)
  • You must have achieved one of the following:
    a minimum overall average of 75% in Grade 11 (or equivalent), if currently in Matric
    a minimum overall average of 75% in Grade 12/ Matric (or equivalent), if completed Matric
    a minimum result of 80% for 4 subjects (excluding Life Orientation)
  • You must intend on studying full-time at a Varsity College campus in 2024
  • You must be entering your 1st year of undergraduate studies
  • You must meet the minimum entry criteria for your chosen undergraduate qualification

Achiever Scholarship:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must have achieved one of the following:
    a minimum overall average of 60% in Grade 11 (or equivalent), if currently in Matric
    a minimum overall average of 60% in Grade 12/ Matric (or equivalent), if completed Matric
  • You must have a total household income of NO MORE than R400 000 per year
  • You must intend on studying full-time at a Varsity College campus in 2024
  • You must be entering your 1st year of undergraduate studies
  • You must meet the minimum entry criteria for your chosen undergraduate qualification

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE VARSITY COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP

Candidates must follow these instructions to apply:

3) Complete the Varsity College Scholarship Application 2024

Upload clear copies of the following supporting documentation (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • Completed Undergraduate Application Form, if you have not yet applied (from item 1 above)
  • Completed Scholarship Application Form (from item 2 above)
  • Grade 11 (or equivalent) final results, if currently in Matric
  • Grade 12/ Matric (or equivalent) final results, if completed Matric
  • Parents/ guardians 3 months’ latest bank statements
  • Parents/ guardians proof of household income (latest payslips or letter from employer if employed, affidavit if unemployed, proof of pension or grant if applicable)
  • Parents/ guardians 2021 tax certificate (if they are registered for tax)
  • If from a single-income household: a certified declaration stating that your parent or guardian is the sole income earner
  • Motivational letter (on this template), if applying for the Achiever Scholarship (600 words)

IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT THE VARSITY COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

  • Candidates are encouraged to complete a campus consultation/ appointment with a Student Advisor, before applying, as this will assist with the application process.
  • Candidates must read and agree to the Varsity College Scholarship T&C’s (.pdf) before applying.
  • Students should only submit 1 application – they will be automatically considered for the category they qualify for.
  • The final selection for the Excellence Scholarship will be based on the latest school results.
  • The final selection for the Achiever Scholarship will be based on school achievement and a motivational letter.
  • Students may apply for a maximum of 3 qualifications and will be required to rank their selected qualifications in order of preference.
  • Successful candidates will be notified in writing by no later than 5 November 2021.
  • Recipients will be required to confirm their acceptance by no later than 30 November 2021, pay the pre-admission fee and complete the 2024 intake process.
